Born in Pikeville, Kentucky, Wendy's early life was a far cry from the glamorous world of adult entertainment she now inhabits. Her family struggled to make ends meet, relying on charity and food stamps to get by. However, Wendy's determination and resilience saw her through the tough times, and she went on to graduate from Eastern Kentucky University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. She has shared how her great-grandmother, who took her in when her father's alcoholism became too much to bear, instilled in her a strong work ethic and the importance of education.
As Wendy began to explore her gender identity, she started performing in drag shows under the stage name "Wendy Williams," a moniker created by her drag mother Stephanie St. Claire. This experience allowed her to build her confidence and connect with the trans community. In 2000, a friend introduced her to the concept of solo transsexual performer websites, and Wendy was inspired to launch her own site, WendyWilliamsXXX.com. With her first nude photo shoot in 2002, Wendy's adult film career officially took off. She has since become one of the most recognizable and respected trans performers in the industry, earning numerous awards and accolades, including induction into the AVN Awards "Hall Of Fame." As Wendy has explained, her collaboration with transsexual superstar Joanna Jet in 2003 was a pivotal moment in her career, marking the beginning of her success in the adult entertainment industry.
